The Music department is located on the ground floor of the main building. It the youngest department of Tallinn Central Library, opened on January 29, 2002. The department has an extensive collection of books about music and musicians both for lending and for reference, notes and music periodicals. The collection includes a wide range of musical genres: classical, jazz, pop and rock as well as folk and world music in a variety of formats (audio- and videotapes, CDs and DVDs). All the items in the collection are available for online searching. It is a balanced and diverse collection meant to satisfy the needs of people with various interests: students, musicians and entertainment seekers. The Music department has also a collection of books in foreign languages and an access to electronic database Grove Music Online

Services

Home lending: books, notes, LPs, CDs and videos of classical music, audio- books and videotapes.
Inside loan: reference materials, single copies of books, pop-music CDs and some videotapes.
Video room: you can watch music videos and films (it houses 25 persons). It's recommended to reserve the room in advance.
Copying: photo- and audio copies of the materials. Charged services 
Reference services: reference questions are answered in person, over the telephone or via e-mail. Librarians also assist with the use of online catalogues and electronic databases.

The Music department also makes exhibitions, organizes competitions, concerts and musical performances.
